Easter Learning Week
Welcome to the Easter Learning Week! This themed curriculum module celebrates the arrival of spring, new life, and nature’s regrowth. Through egg-themed science experiments, sensory coordination games, paper crafts, and collaborative egg hunts, children will explore the beauty of spring while developing vital cognitive, physical, and social skills.
Designed as a five-day experience, each daily activity takes 15 to 30 minutes. You can easily insert these sessions into your morning meetings, circle times, or transition blocks.
MISSION BRIEF: WHAT IS THIS LEARNING WEEK?
The Easter Learning Week is an enrichment resource pack designed to explore spring science, geometry, animal life cycles, and cooperative play. We focus on highly engaging, safe, inclusive early-childhood practices: investigating water density with eggs, matching colorful bunny tails to practice early math, crafting paper-plate spring animals, and participating in cooperative paired hunts.
TARGET AGE GROUP
This learning week is optimized for Ages 3–6 (Early Childhood). It contains simple adaptation guides to scale the challenge down for younger toddlers (Ages 2–3) or up for older pre-schoolers (Ages 5–7).
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES
By completing this thematic unit, children will:
- Scientific Inquiry: Test hypotheses about floating and sinking, and investigate properties of water.
- Early Math & Counting: Count, sort, and match objects by color and quantity.
- Bilateral & Fine Motor Skills: Use tweezers, scissors, and glue to manipulate delicate materials.
- Cooperative Problem-Solving: Learn to work with a partner and share findings.
- Gross Motor Agility: Improve balance, hopping control, and directional movements.
MATERIALS AND PREPARATION
Most of these activities use basic household recyclables and standard classroom supplies. Before starting, gather:
- Clear tubs with water, table salt, spoons, and hard-boiled or plastic eggs
- Pre-cut colorful paper bunnies with numbered tummies
- Colorful cotton balls, wool pom-poms, and plastic tweezers
- Paper plates, pink/white cardstock, safety scissors, glue, and markers
- Plastic hollow eggs and basket
HOW TO RUN THE DAILY ACTIVITIES
Follow this simple, step-by-step sequence over five consecutive days:
Day 1: Egg Float or Sink Science (Science)
- Step 1: Fill two clear bowls or tubs with fresh water.
- Step 2: Place a plastic or boiled egg in the first bowl and watch it sink.
- Step 3: Have children stir several large spoons of salt into the second bowl.
- Step 4: Place the egg in the salty water. Watch it float, and discuss how salt makes water denser.
Day 2: Bunny Tail Counting & Color Match (Math & Pincers)
- Step 1: Place pre-cut paper bunnies of different colors (with numbers 1-5 on them) on a tray.
- Step 2: Put a bowl of matching colorful pom-poms (bunny tails) next to the tray.
- Step 3: Instruct children to use plastic tweezers to pick up the pom-poms.
- Step 4: Match the pom-poms to the correct bunny’s color, adding the precise number of “tails” shown on its tummy.
Day 3: Paper Plate Bunny and Chick Crafts (Art & Textures)
- Step 1: Give each child a paper plate. Let them choose to make either a Bunny or a spring Baby Chick.
- Step 2: For the bunny, paste long paper ears on top and glue soft white cotton balls all over the plate.
- Step 3: For the chick, paint the plate yellow and paste feathers and an orange paper beak in the center.
- Step 4: Let dry, experiencing the soft, contrasting sensory textures.
Day 4: Cooperative Egg Hunt (Social-Emotional Learning)
- Step 1: Hide plastic hollow eggs containing simple stickers around the room or play area.
- Step 2: Pair children up into “helping teams” and give each pair one basket.
- Step 3: Instruct the children that they must hold hands and search together.
- Step 4: Once all eggs are found, have the teams count their shared treasures.
Day 5: Bunny Hop Obstacle Course (Physical Play)
- Step 1: Set up a simple path using tape or chalk lines on the ground.
- Step 2: Place tape lines like lily pads that children must jump between.
- Step 3: Guide the children to tuck their hands like bunny paws and hop from one line to the next.
- Step 4: Integrate simple commands: “Hop fast! Hop slow! Land on two feet!”
ADAPTATIONS AND EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
- For Ages 2–3: Skip the tweezers. Let toddlers use fingers to place large pom-poms onto matching colored bunny shapes on sticky contact paper.
- For Ages 5–7: Let children add salt spoon-by-spoon to record exactly how much is needed to float the egg. Introduce simple addition on the bunnies.
DAILY REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION PROMPTS
End each day with a 5-minute reflection circle:
- Day 1: Why did the egg float in the salty water but sink in the plain water?
- Day 2: Was it easy or hard to hold the pom-poms with the tweezers?
- Day 3: Is your cotton bunny soft or rough? How is that different from feathers?
- Day 4: How did your partner help you find the eggs?
- Day 5: How do your legs feel after hopping like a bunny?
