Children explore what makes an animal a pet, compare familiar pets, and practise ways of caring for them safely and kindly. Pet crafts, stories, role-play, a visitor interaction, letter I activities, and counting games reinforce the week's learning.
What children learn
- Define pet animals and explain that they depend on people for food, shelter, companionship, and care.
- Identify features and needs of common pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and fish.
- Describe hygienic and responsible pet care and recognise the role of a veterinarian.
- Recognise and construct the letter I and rote count from 1 to 10.
Key activities
- Colour a chosen pet-animal cut-out and explain the choice.
- Make paw-and-claw prints with dog and cat figurines.
- Create a bird or fish paper-plate craft and a mouse finger puppet after a story.
- Wash animal figurines in a pet-care role-play and interview visiting pet owners.
- Make a dog-bottle rattler and prepare banana ladoos in small groups.
