Nursery Week 25 — Transportation

Children compare the history and major modes of transport, then focus on vehicles that travel by land, water, and air. Sorting and vehicle construction are paired with letter Uu and repeated work on the symbol and value of number 9.

What children learn

  • Compare older and newer forms of transportation.
  • Classify transport by land, water, and air.
  • Identify features of vehicles associated with each mode of travel.
  • Recognise and write Uu and recognise, count, trace, and write the number 9.

Key activities

  • Constructing an old-style vehicle from wheels, straws, buttons, and pegs
  • Sorting toy vehicles and picture cards by mode of transport
  • Sponge-printing a land-transport vehicle
  • Making a boat from a paper plate and ice-cream sticks
  • Constructing an air-transport picture with paper plates and cut-outs

You’ll need

pictures of old vehicles, toy vehicles and picture cards, pre-made roads and chart paper, wheels and straws, pegs and buttons, sponges and paint, paper plates and ice-cream sticks, air-transport cut-outs, letter Uu cards, number 9 cards and blocks
